3-MCDP's

3-MCPD, 2-MCPD and Glycidol are not only formed during oil and fat refining, but also during other preparation and technological processes such as frying, baking and barbecuing of products. Examples include margarine, sauces, soy sauces, deep-fried products and baked goods. 3-MCPD is most found in palm oil and often in higher quantities.

The MCPD method applied by TLR has recently been officially published as an ISO method. Apart from this publication it is quite unique that this method has been nominated by NEN (committee on oils and fats, in which TLR has contributed in the past) as there are already several methods nominated for the same determination. The official standard specifying the method is NEN-EN-ISO 18363-4:2021. This gas chromatographic (GC) method uses triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (MSMS) and detects MCPDs and Glycidol in hydrolyzed proteins in animal and vegetable oils and fats as well as in other foods. Our method is fully automated and therefore faster and more accurate than other methods.
